Different crystal sizes and
orientations
EK1-17. The edge of the vein is at the bottom of the photo, the center
of the vein at the top. Crystals are smaller near the edge of the
vein, growing larger towards the middle of the photo, at which point there
is a region of turbid growth zoning and fluid inclusions, after which the
crystals become small again and grow to be larger at the top of the photo.
Bright spots are corundum remaining from thin section polishing process.
EK1-18. The edge of the vein is at the bottom of the photo, the
center of the vein at the top. Crystals are smaller near the edge
of the vein, growing larger towards the top of the photo, where there is
a region of turbid zoning, followed by continued concentric growth zoning
following the same orientation as the previous crystal growth. Bright
spots are corundum remaining from thin section polishing process.
