Research Interests
My current research is focused on lithospheric mantle evolution, particularly beneath the North China Craton. The lithospheric mantle is sampled by mantle xenoliths, which give us a chance to look into the temporal evolution of the mantle lithosphere. Previous studies of mantle xenoliths suggest the loss of the cratonic root beneath the eastern North China Craton sometime after the Ordovician. The current main debate is the timing and mechanism of the lithospheric replacement, which we set as our goal in this project. The work is currently being undertaken mainly through a detailed petrographic, geochemical and Re-Os isotopic study as well as platinum group element (PGE) compositions of mantle peridotites hosted in igneous rocks since the Paleozoic.
