Research Interests
My research is designed to quantify the amount of runoff generated from overland flow and groundwater sources in an urban watershed. I am conducting my research in the Anacostia River, a large urban watershed near Washington D.C. Our UMD research team has established 4 gauges in the watershed that continuously monitor discharge, turbidity, and conductivity. I am using data from these and USGS gauges to determine changes in sources of stormwater runoff from the headwaters to the mouth for different types of storm events. These data are used to evaluate the relationship between overland flow runoff and impervious cover at various watershed locations. I am also documenting the surprising amount of groundwater contributions and its relationship to floodplain characteristics within the watershed.
