Research Interests
I am interested in the evaluating how hydrological and biological processes in tidal freshwater marsh ecosystems might change with sea level rise. My research focuses on linking geomorphic, hydrologic, and biogeochemical processes in tidal wetlands. I use field measurements to examine the gemorphic and hydologic controls on water and nitrate fluxes into freshwater tidal marshes. The biogeochemical processing (denitrification rates, nutrient uptake) are studied by mass balance methods in the field, as well as by conducting field and laboratory experiments on denitrification and other processes. My research is being conducted in freshwater tidal wetlands of the Patuxent River, Maryland near Jug Bay. |
