1) As part of the Geology-Education double major
Results in a B.S. degree with majors in Geology and Education and Maryland State Teaching Certification in secondary education. Entails 31 Education credits (with student teaching) and 40-42 Geology credits (including the Senior Thesis and Field Camp). METO 200 is added to the requirements for the Geology major (to aid in Earth Science Certification) and two semesters each of Calculus and Chemistry and one semester of calculus-based Physics is retained.

2) As a stand-alone Geology major
Combines 12 credits of Education courses with a Geology major requiring two less upper-level Geology courses, but adding METO 200. This program will prepare the student for taking the Praxis exams, and, in some cases, will allow the graduate to start teaching in school districts with a critical lack of Earth Science teachers. Additional Education coursework plus student teaching is needed to meet the State requirements for certification.
