Andrew Campbell studies the physical and chemical properties of planetary materials, and their implications for the evolution, structure, and dynamics of planetary interiors, including Earth’s. He oversees the Laboratory for Mineral Physics at the University of Maryland, specializing in experimental investigations of minerals under high-pressure, high-temperature conditions. Campbell and his research group are also active participants in the synchrotron x-ray research community.

Campbell received his Ph.D. in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago in 1993. He was a Carnegie Fellow at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and a Senior Development Engineer at GE Superabrasives, a General Electric company. He was a Senior Research Scientist in cosmochemistry and mineral physics at the University of Chicago before joining the faculty at Maryland in 2005. Campbell is returning to Chicago as Associate Professor in 2010.
