The Stable Isotope Laboratory at the University of Maryland is managed by Nicholas Collins.  It provides a variety of analytical capabilities and opportunities for stable isotope research.  There are facilities for analysis of a wide array of traditional and non-traditional stable isotope ratios using gas source isotope ratio mass spectrometry.  Questions about the laboratory should be directed either Alan Jay Kaufman, or James Farquhar.

MAT 253 May 2006

We realize there are already some analytical charge agreements and we will stick by them until they expire, but all future analytical costs will have to take into account the cost of the parts on the mass spectrometer and the labor costs involved in their replacement.  To this end, we are setting the costs for SF6 fluorinations on a per-day basis at daily rates of

Standard rate                                    $50.00 per analysis

Student                                             $30.00 per analysis if UM and fully independent

This does not include standards (which must be included with samples and preparation of samples ($10/sample for fully independent $20 per sample otherwise)

These are collaborative rates and represent the break even cost for these analyses.  We presently are only involved in collaborative projects.  Non collaborative rates may be imposed by the Department and will be determined at the time of the contract.
