Field Trip 05-5/6-01: Whale excavation

ELT students got the rare opportunity to participate in an actual dig. A whale fossil was discovered by a local resident who realized it's paleontological worth.

Students learned first hand the amount of painstaking work and detail involved in sucessfully retrieving a fossil in the field. Here the group wraps the whale in bandages to protect its brittle structure.

Another group prepare's burlap that will be used to cover the whale for its trip back to the University.
