Female and dead chick

We were already in the airport lobby when Luis came in saying that there was something we had to see. In front of the terminal he showed us this nest in which a female medium ground finch was cannibalizing a chick. Luis had never heard of this happening. Whether the chick had died of natural causes was unclear.
