John Merck

John gets about as close as he can get to the inhabitants of Cerro Brujo without attracting their negative attention. The sea lions were irritated by adult humans who came too close, even those trying to be circumspect. Children, however, seemed to have carte blanche, approaching them closely without provoking a reaction.

John poses with a captive male galápagos tortoise at the Darwin Research Station.
