La Loberia

Note: A sea lion colony occupies a pocket beach between two headlands at the southern end of San Cristóbal. This shore receives the full force of prevailing winds and swell, however it is a short drive from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and not within the boundaries of the Galápagos National Park. Instead, it functions as Puerto Baquerizo Moreno's municiple beach. As such, it has its share of trash, unlike beaches inside the park.

Loberia sea lions

Note: The desire to get up close to sea lions was hard to resist, even though they are large carnivores that don't tolerate encroachments on their personal space.

Gravel quarry

Note: Resources for the development of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno don't come out of nowhere. The road to the Loberia passes a cinder cone being quarried for gravel.
