Note: Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the second largest town in the Galápagos and the capital of the province.

Puerto Baquerizo Moreno waterfront

Note: The town's tourist industry has grown considerably since my only other visit in 2000, with improvements to many waterfront businesses and a new municipal wharf.

Hotel Casa Blanca

Note: In 2000 this was merely a hotel, now it has sprouted shops and a cafe. This transformation is consistent with a general shift in the islands toward the development of a non-ecological component to their tourist/entertainment industry.

A hotel and disco

Note: Odd timing curtailed our visit to the cultural center at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, but on the walk back to the wharf, we sighted several interesting bits of tourist kitsch.

Research vessel with submersible

Note: You never know what you'll see. We spotted this vessel with a submersible on its deck by accident in the Puerto Baquerizo Moreno harbor.
