Introduction: I am not the kind of persons who spends valuable travel writing impressions in a diary. I either am doing something, or resting up for later exertions. The 2000 Galápagos trip is different, however. Because it was an academic exercise, because we plan to repeat it in coming years minus this year's mistakes, and because we urge other academic institutions to follow our example, I have written this travelogue.
People accuse me of being verbose, and I guess this is a good example. I have two motives for going into the detail that I do:
- Promotion: If you are a student thinking of joining us next year (!) or a parent wondering if this venture is academically worthwhile, I want this account will give you a good idea of what to expect.
- Information: If you are faculty member thinking of organizing your own study abroad tour, this detailed account is here so you can learn from our successes and our mistakes. Good luck and feel free to contact us.
