Comments: The beautiful pink granite facing buildings in the DC area comes from the 800 million year old Town Mountain granite intrusions of the Llano Uplift. Enchanted rock is a series of big spherical intrusions that have been exposed by erosion, like the top of a huge bald head. It displays spheroidal weathering and exfoliation surfaces ona grand scale.

Comments: Vernal pools form when rainwater pools up on a granite surface. The granite is weathered byt he carbonic acid in the water, deepening the depression in which the water gathered and forming soil in which plants grow. The plants add their organic remains to the soil, forming little oases of vegetation.
