New team members

Two new Graduate students, Jodi Gaeman and Garrett Mitchell, joined the Geodynamics Group this fall! Garrett is finishing a combined BS/MS in geology and Jodi enrolled for a full PhD. In addition, you might find in our labs undergraduates student Matt Abbott, Geri Michalitsianos, and Kevin Miller. Kevin is at Physics Major who also the first student enrolled in the Geophysics Minor at Maryland. Hopefully not the last!

Summer memories

Garrett Mitchell spend his summer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) as a Summer Student Fellow, working under the direction of Dr. S. Adam Soule. HIs internship is featured prominently in the current edition of WHOI's oceanus magazine.

Meeting

The Geodynamics group will be well-represented at the Fall AGU meeting with Laurent, Sash, Garrett, and Kevin all attending. Laura will have a poster there, but cannot attend for private reason.

Prof. Laurent Montési was a co-organizer of the 2009 Ridge2000 Synthesis and Integration Workshop

Geodynamics at the University of Maryland

Welcome to the homepage of the geodynamics group at the University of Maryland. We develop theoretical models of the way that the Earth works, and compare their predictions to actual observations. We are interested in particular in magma transport, plate boundary development, and earthquake generation.

We are using this website to share the resources we are developing at the University of Maryland. We share the philosophy that our work is for the common good and welcome you to use any resource you find here. We only ask that you cite the relevent papers when you communicate results that use these resources.

Our group is young and growing. We are looking for a few good people to join our group as graduate students. If you are interested, take a look at our research and opportunities pages and don't hesitate to contact any one of us.
