Photo 5

Photo 5. Photograph of a complex, asymmetric dike with an offset pegmatitic core enclosed within an aplitic envelope. A biotite selvage is present along the hanging wall (?) contact. The pegmatitic core contains variably oriented K-feldspar, in addition to quartz, and surrounded by a finer-grained plagioclase-K-feldspar-quartz sheath. K-feldspar present in the core of the pegmatitic region is often tooth-like, with roots present in the sheath. The contact is undulose and gradational.
