It's the sun, not us.

Brief Responses to Climate Change Denialism Statements

"It's the sun, not us."

Evidence from studies show that the rate of global warming occurs faster than what is natural and has been observed in the past. The changes that would occur alongside global warming that would be observed if the sun was the source of it have not been present. Firstly, the sun’s heating/cooling patterns do not align with the earth’s patterns. If global warming was caused by the sun, we would see a strong correlation between the two which isn’t the case (particularly in the past few decades). For example, solar activity had substantial cooling effects around 1960 while the fastest global warming started in the 80’s. People who use this excuse commonly utilize cherry-picking to only highlight the data that supports their argument while ignoring those that refute it. The chemical makeup of natural carbon versus fossil fuel carbon differ which allow scientists to distinguish the two. The facts show that the planet is warming beyond the usual greenhouse effect because nights warm faster than days, the stratosphere is cooling, the tropopause is rising, and the ionosphere is shrinking. So, if you still believe the sun is the villain I would advise you to look at other factors. It’s us, not the sun.
