Comments: This was a stop on our GEO660 tour of the Valles Caldera and its environs. The rock consists of dense pyroclasts and formed when hot, sticky volcanic ash filled a small rivine. Subsequently, the walls of the rivine eroded away, leaving the rock as its mold.
