Studies of Shallow Plutonic and Volcanic Systems

Graduate students Bryan Stuller and Tracy Rocca, and high school student Wei-Li Deng making observations about mineralogical variability along strike of a felsic dike in the Cathedral Peak granodiorite, Yosemite National Park, California.
Research Interests

As part of this work, Drs. Piccoli and Candela are making detailed observations about textural, mineralogical and geochemical variability across and along the length, of dikes. Mapping at sub-meter scale is an integral component of this work. These observations are interpreted in light of textural variability generated in experimental laboratories, in order to yield information about how intensive parameters (e.g. P & T) vary as fracture propagation and dike emplacement occur.
