Alan Kaufman

My graduate studies are focused on Cenozoic Geology and my research on the reconstruction of paleoclimatic and paleonenvironmental records based on sedimentary observations of magnetic susceptibility, grain-size, and stable isotope compositions. I am particularly interested in intervals of abrupt climate change, and at the University of Maryland, my research is aimed at documenting and interpreting stable isotopic variations in drill core samples that accumulated in a Chinese lake across the PETM (Paleocene - Eocene Thermal Maximum).
