M.S. Students:

Undergraduate Researchers / Senior Thesis Students

  • Donovan Cunion (2025) – Senior Thesis: “Investigating the Intrinsic Attenuation of Large Low-Velocity Provinces” — Donovan is now pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Delaware with Prof. Colton Lynner
  • Yuval Ravinsky-Gray (2024) – Senior Thesis: “The Faults in Our State: An investigation of earthquakes in Maryland” — Yuval is now pursuing his M.S. at the University of California, Davis, with Prof. Max Rudolph
  • Peter Meehan (2018) – Senior Thesis: “Origin of the Cheverly Booms” — In appreciation of his efforts, Pete received an award from the City of Cheverly
  • Anant Hariharan, Summer 2017: Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology summer intern from Cornell University. Anant applied spherical wavelet analysis to multi-scale tomographic model comparison with the goal of identifying lengthscale(s) at which structures imaged by high-frequency travel-time P-wave tomography (which has variable resolution) are compatible with global long period S-wave tomography. He was co-mentored by Dr. Moulik, who is a postdoctoral researcher in my lab. He completed his Ph.D. at Brown University working with Prof. Colleen Dalton and a postdoc at the University of California, Santa Barbara with Prof. Zach Eilon
  • Brittany Washington, Summer 2017: Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology summer intern from University of New Jersey at Newark. Brittany studied seismic signals from a high frequency ocean bottom array in Bransfield Strait, Antarctica, and was co-mentored by Prof. Nick Schmerr.
  • Dakota Sparks (2017) — Senior Thesis: “Quantifying Differences in Turbulence Between Alluvial and Bedrock Streams Using Analyses of Seismic Noise” (co-advised with Dr. Prestegaard)
  • Sutton Chiorini (2016) – Senior Thesis: “Swarm-like seismicity in Northern California” — Sutton received her M.S. from the Miami University of Ohio with Prof. Mike Brudzinski
  • Jonathan Guandique (Summer 2015) – Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology summer intern from Fort Valley State University. He graduated from Penn State University and completed a Master’s program at Maryland with Prof. Nick Schmerr.
  • Brendan Lockhart, (2012 – 2014) — Brendan worked on several MATLAB-based seismic analysis projects and has, after graduating, become a successful entrepreneur.
  • Jesse M. Kolb (2012-2013) — Jesse worked on transdimensional deconvolution, and first-authored a paper published in GJI (Kolb and Lekic, 2014). After graduating from Maryland, Jesse completed a Master’s degree in exploration seismology at the University of Calgary (CREWES) with Prof. Kris Innanen.
  • Michael Ream (2012-2013) – After graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park, Mike enrolled in the Ph.D. program at Portland State University.
  • Alan Cinsavich (2013) – Senior Thesis: “Intraplate seismicity of the Gorda Plate”
  • Rishi Sugla (2013) – Senior Thesis: “Orbital and Structural Evolution of Triton” (co-advised with Drs. Heir-Majumder and Hamilton)
  • Alex J. Kandell (2012 – 2013) — Alex worked on characterizing seismic noise in Antarctica and its relationship to sea ice. After graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park, he enrolled in a Master’s program in seismology at Rice University.
  • Jeff Gay (Summer 2012, 2013) — Jeff was a summer intern in our lab from Montana State University working on characterizing swarm seismicity. He completed his Ph.D. from the University of Lille under Prof. Sebastien Merkel, followed by a postdoc at Princeton University.
